Homecoming is probably one of the most memorable moments of any teenager’s life, and if you want to be the girl that everyone remembers, you must choose the right dress. Oftentimes, finding and choosing among a ton of homecoming dresses can be very daunting. Fortunately, the process doesn’t exactly have to be all that intimidating. There are so many things that you can do to easily find the perfect dress that not only suits your body perfectly, but also compliments your personal style as well.

Tips on How to Choose the Right Homecoming Dresses for Your Personal Style

- Know your style

The very first thing that you need to do in order to find the perfect homecoming dress is to know what your style is, and what type of style you wish to exude in the dress you buy. There are so many types of styles you can go for: the seductive look, the conservative look, fun and sassy, and the traditional fairy-tale look. If your personal style is funky yet sophisticated, look for a dress that compliments both of those factors. Before spending time looking for a homecoming dress, picture exactly how you want the dress to look so that you don’t waste any time at all.

- Know your size

Secondly, know your size, or at least know what size you want your body to fit in before homecoming. If you are buying the dress online, understand that you may get a dress that is too big or too small, so be open minded about alterations. When buying a dress at an actual store, don’t be afraid to try on all sorts of dresses. Some dresses look way better when you wear them than when they’re on a hanger. So don’t judge the dress by your first glance, and try it on.

- Don’t be afraid to alter the dress

If you find a homecoming dress that has a close style to your dream dress, don’t be afraid to alter it to perfectly suit your personal style. Some girls are so afraid to do anything to a dress because of how much they paid for it, but tiny tweaks can really make the dress appear way better. If you’re too afraid to make big alterations, then have a friend help you out adding certain jewels or glitters to make it look more like your dream dress.

Tips on Saving Money on Homecoming Dresses

When on a budget, most girls think that their options are limited, but that is completely not true. Having a budget is always important, but you must also make sure you stay on that budget. Know that not all great dresses have to be expensive. There are so many great stores that retail amazing dresses for affordable prices, you just need to know where to look and when to look. Dresses become way cheaper during special seasons and holidays. So consider buying your dress during a busy fashion season because stores offer such crazy discounts and sales to save you plenty of money.

Too often high fashion looks extreme as it comes down the runway. There are a number of ways, however to take the best elements of Parisian Fashion Week and incorporate them into your wardrobe for high fashion appeal. You can use these tips for your prom 2013 attire

Knee High Boots

Knee high boots look fantastic with skirts, leggings and skinny jeans. Look for boots with a smooth or slouching top, and interesting features like buckles and straps.

Oversized Coats

Oversized coats were first popular in the 1950s, and speak of luxury and excess. This trend has returned this season, and promises to bring with it a certain sense of nostalgia and grace.

Menswear

One of the major trends on the runway this year was using menswear in ladies apparel. Look for pearl snap shirts, gentlemen’s trousers, button down vests and argyle sweaters to sport this look.

Cable Knit Sweaters

Sweaters with interesting cable patterns will be big this fall. Look for sweaters with intricate knit patterning, cowl or turtleneck necklines and other interesting features.

Color Blocking with Bold Colors

Color blocking is pairing multiple bright, bold colors, in chunks of color. Match a bright colored shirt, a pencil skirt in a contrasting color, and a solid wallet to complete the look. Consider wearing animal print heals with the color blocking to really make a statement.

Tassels or balls along the neckline and hem

A number of fashions were seen in the fall line that had tassels, or ribbons with red balls, along the hem, or trimming the neckline. There are off-the rack designs sporting tassels and balls, or you can add trim to a favorite V-neck sweater or straight line skirt.

Metallic solids

A number of metallic suits made their way down the cat walk during Paris fashion week. While a metallic suit may have too much shine for the office or the classroom, pairing a metallic pair of slacks or a metallic blazer with more basic pieces is a great way to incorporate this look into your own wardrobe.

Sheer Layers

Models sported sheer apparel on the Parisian runway that would make your mother blush, but there are a number of more modest ways to don sheer garb. Consider pairing a sheer blouse with a vest, a sheer skirt with leggings, or sheer pants with a mini-skirt.

It’s a new year, which means it’s award season, which also means that the fabulous red carpet starlets are setting the precedent for the must have styles for current and upcoming prom seasons. All eyes are on the movers and shakers of the movie and music worlds, to see what their stylists decide to don them in so they can strut their stuff down the red carpet. A starlet’s dress can make or break their style status, just like your prom dress can make or break your night, so we all want to choose what’s right! Just from the Golden Globes alone, we can already spot some hot trends. Jennifer Lopez and Amy Adams both wore nude dresses, giving off a barely there illusion; whilst Salma Hayek and Sofia Vergara graced the scarlet carpet in black floor length gowns that sparkled. But one of the most refreshing trends was that of the printed gown!

The resurrection of prints and patterns was most prominent this past fall, a host of designs appeared on everything from t-shirts to pant suits. So, it is no surprise that the trend has finally trickled down and is slowly making an appearance on the red carpet. Kerry Washington donned an ethereal Giles gown that featured a horse printed skirt at the Django Unchained London premier, while Lucy Liu, Halle Berry, Ariel Winter and Sienna Miller all sported brightly printed frocks on the Golden Globes’ red carpet. From the pattern of pretty ladies adorned in printed and patterned creations thus far, we’re sure that the list will extend with the Oscars, Grammys and SAG Awards still set to air in the upcoming weeks.

Ready to start looking for your prom dress after these trend tips, visit our Pinterest board for the top trends of 2013!

Grunge had its heyday more than a decade back, but that doesn’t stop some gals from still piling a dirty-looking flannel over a dirty-looking T-shirt. Please don’t. Not only is the look no longer cool, it also screams of confusion. Perhaps you’re confused as to what decade you’re in. Or maybe you’re confused about the operation of that thing called a washing machine.

A Tee with Class

T-shirts with class are where it’s at for spring and summer of 2013. Class comes from not only keeping the tee clean and free from flannel infringements, but also from opting for one of the airy, breezy fabrics that are taking front and center on the standard fare.

Even the most casual of tees will feature silk, lightweight linen and other luxurious and delicate fabrics. The cut will mimic the airy and breezy feel with a focus on flowing lines and slightly billowing silhouettes that drape themselves over the bodice.

Slash-Neck Cuts

Forget the standard crew neck or v-neck, too. Slash-neck cuts will be the rage, although they shall come with a caveat. Unlike the randomly slashed cuts that graced aerobic sweatshirts and “Dirty Dancing” stars, the necklines on the new tees will have precise slash-necks with hemmed edges. These necklines can even have a lower cut with a gauzy lining, a nod back to formal gowns that feature a nude or black body-stocking-type under-layer.

Perky Patterns and Colors

Even if you think Justin Bieber’s face counts as a perky pattern on a tee, you should trade up for a classier shirt. Perky patterns and colors on the most stylish T-shirts will include bold contrasts, such as a deep aqua and magenta splash of flowers, and the obsequious color blocking. Instead of blocking on a single garment, however, expect to find blocks of color thanks to layered looks that pair spring’s hottest hues with a contrasting shade.

Tees that feature rock bands and teen idols are going out while the new look showcases tees you could actually wear on a dinner date. Pair the new tee with jeans for a casual vibe or dress it up completely with a mini or embellished leggings. Either way, the new tees promise both style and comfort without a hint of grunge. You can use your new favorite T-shirt at your after prom party. yOUR BOYFRIEND WILL BE VERY HAPPY.

Cuff bracelets have been on the fashion scene for months, and they are not going anywhere anytime soon. They are, however, getting a major makeover that shall transform the current ho-hum cuff into a luxe adornment. The trend is expected to erupt for spring and summer 2013, but there’s no harm taking a sneak peek at what’s to come in the arm candy category.

Location

One of the most obvious changes to the standard cuff is its location. No longer delegated to only the wrist, captivating cuffs are expected to show up on all areas of the arm and even the leg. Forget the thin and delicate anklet when you can wear a bold and brazen cuff wrapped atop your ankle latte, above a pair of killer shoes.

Colors

Neon colors struggled to make a cuff revival of late, but the struggle was lost in favor of powerful, classy colors to provide deep impact and contrast. That means no bright orange or hot pink, but plenty of punchy teals, gold, silver and other metallics.

Materials

Plastic, too, was struggling to once again dominate the cuff a la the 1980s, but it also went to the wayside in favor of magnificent metals. Pure gold and silver are always an option, but they are not the only option. Nickel is showing up as a hot new choice.

Design

If it looks smashing, dashing or otherwise eye-catching, by all means you can go for it! Studs, jewels, chains, links, laser cut-outs and fanciful embellishments are in, as long as they follow the trendy guidelines concerning the hottest cuffs’ materials and color. Butterfly or angel wings, raised gemstones and various geometric or animalistic shapes may all make the cut for the latest in cuffs.

Incorporation

Due to the bold and brazen nature of the new cuffs, it needs proper breathing room to make a statement on its own. That means wearing one with competing sleeves or hemlines is a no-no, as is piling on those that overlap and appear messy.

Wearing more than one cuff is certainly chic as long as the cuffs play off each other to create visual impact and interest. Wearing cuffs over long sleeves can work with a shirt that offsets the jewelry’s cut and color, but it is highly unlikely that wearing a cuff over a pant leg will be en vogue anytime soon.

Long gone is the women’s corporate power suit when it comes to workplace trends on the agenda for spring 2013. One of the hottest looks will instead showcase femininity, rather than trying to hide it under bulky shoulder pads. Enter the belted floral dress.

Dress for Success in Belted Floral Frock

While the flowery frock has always been a staple for a casual brunch or weekend wear, the belted floral dress will be blooming as office wear, according to forecasting agency Mpdclick and noted on Fashionising.com. The silhouette of the go-everywhere dresses will feature a cinched shape but enough give to create a soft and feminine look. The most sought-after hemlines will hit right above the knee in a longer style than has been on trend for years past.

Because the belt is such an integral part of the overall look, matching or contrasting fabrics may be used to create a finished product that incorporates itself into the dress and, of course, may even be sold with the frock.

Shun the Button-Down for the Collarless Blouse

Another girly look coming to the office is the collarless blouse. It is a neckline that will also grace the belted floral dress. Fussy collars and button-downs are out, as is the option of donning a necktie. The collarless blouse can feature a higher neckline or one that dips but a soft, rounded shape is on spot in far anticipation of spring weather. Embellishments are allowed, such as soft frills for thrills; although you’ll want to keep away from anything that needs starch to keep it in place.

The blouse can work beneath a corporate suit jacket if necessary, with the ease of shedding the jacket after-hours for an immediately more casual look. The same goes for the floral dress, which can transform from corporate chic to casual fare with the quick swap of flats for a pair of no-nonsense heels.

Both super-feminine looks take their cue from styles in the Mediterranean, which produce a sensual and breezy mood. The Mediterranean movement will not be limited to fashion, either, as art and culture also follow suit for a fresh breath of style from the balmy destination

Adding a pop of color has never been more fun! Celebs are mixing things up with their styles just by adding color. Take a traditional black dress and make it more fun by putting on some leopard stilettos and red lip stick. Winter white is a favorite of mine but can look dull by itself. Spice up your winter white outfit with colorful accessories and hot pink lips.

There are certain times of the year to make sure you don’t mix certain colors. As we approach Halloween don’t scare everyone with your wardrobe. Black and orange are both great colors to wear but don’t wear them together. By mixing black and orange around this time of the year, you may get mistaken for a pumpkin. Keep your fall looks going by adding some yellow to your orange outfit and you will look vibrant and fashion forward. It is also getting close to the Christmas season and the last thing you want to do is look like a Christmas ornament. Don’t pair your red blouse with a green clutch or emerald earrings. Make your red blouse work by accessorizing with a black bag and shoes. If you want to stay in the Christmas spirit, red and gold always look regal together.

Try something new! This is the time to experiment with color. Throw in a pop of purple or some fierce fuchsia in your collection for fall 2012. Even though color is in, make sure you look in the mirror before you step out on the town. Color is great when done correct, but don’t look crazy. Have fun with fashion and try a pop of color!
