My favorite thing about fashion these days is the fact that everything is coming back in style! In 2012 we’ve seen high waisted pants that take us back to the 70’s, neon novelty pieces that bring back the 80’s and even a grungy flannel and rocker tee that we wish stayed in the 90’s have been seen on all the runways. Fashion is always evolving, but there is only so much you can do with it before designers start recycling styles from the past.
Let’s start with the 70’s. Gwen Stefani and Kim Kardashian have been seen around Hollywood rocking the high waisted jeans. This look is really cute with a blouse tucked in and a pair of high heels. Take the 70’s look a step further and go with the poker straight hair for a night out. Even bell bottom pants are making a comeback, but with a modern twist of a cute wedge sandal. Just be sure your 70s-chic outfit avoids looking costume-y.
Next up– the 80’s. Miley Cyrus has been causing quite the stir with her crazy new hair-do, cut off tanks and multi-colored spandex pants. Now that is channeling the 80’s! There are other fun ways to play with 80s fashion. Painting your nails is a fun and inexpensive way to express your 80’s style. You can do a full neon nail, neon tips or outline your nail in neon. Another easy way is to take a shirt from your closet and cut it up creating a crop top or off the shoulder. Leggings are also huge right now and come endlesscolors and patterns.
Alternative rock and Hip-hop made their debut during the 90’s, and as a result everyone started sporting grungey Nirvana-esque music tees and flannel shirts with baggy jeans or track suits. Rihanna has graced the covers of magazines wearing a big gold chain, solidifying hip-hop coming back around! Ashley Benson and Kristen Stewart are pros at the grunge look. Denim was also a huge trend in the 90s, and acid wash jean jackets and vests are starting to pop back up in today’s fashion.
There are so many ways you can play with fashion. With access to the internet and shops on every corner, it is not hard to bring around some fantastic fashion from the past without breaking the bank. Feel free to be the individual you are and play with looks from all the eras. Fashion is meant to be fun! So tease your hair, put on those neon stilettos, and rock your wind pants because in fashion….what goes around come around!
