Prom dresses and gowns

Trend Report

It’s a new year, which means it’s award season, which also means that the fabulous red carpet starlets are setting the precedent for the must have styles for current and upcoming prom seasons. All eyes are on the movers and shakers of the movie and music worlds, to see what their stylists decide to don them in so they can strut their stuff down the red carpet. A starlet’s dress can make or break their style status, just like your prom dress can make or break your night, so we all want to choose what’s right! Just from the Golden Globes alone, we can already spot some hot trends. Jennifer Lopez and Amy Adams both wore nude dresses, giving off a barely there illusion; whilst Salma Hayek and Sofia Vergara graced the scarlet carpet in black floor length gowns that sparkled. But one of the most refreshing trends was that of the printed gown!

The resurrection of prints and patterns was most prominent this past fall, a host of designs appeared on everything from t-shirts to pant suits. So, it is no surprise that the trend has finally trickled down and is slowly making an appearance on the red carpet. Kerry Washington donned an ethereal Giles gown that featured a horse printed skirt at the Django Unchained London premier, while Lucy Liu, Halle Berry, Ariel Winter and Sienna Miller all sported brightly printed frocks on the Golden Globes’ red carpet. From the pattern of pretty ladies adorned in printed and patterned creations thus far, we’re sure that the list will extend with the Oscars, Grammys and SAG Awards still set to air in the upcoming weeks.

Mila Kunis: In the Movies and Magazines

Well, Glamour magazine has released a sneak peek at their August issue featuring none other than the striking Ted star, Mila Kunis. Ted is coincidentally opening in theaters, nationwide, today – oh, how cute is the advertising industry in Hollywood. Unfortunately, the cover shot of beautiful Mila doesn’t reminisce thoughts of her new movie with Hollywood hunk, Mark Wahlberg. It does however remind us of her days with former TV cast on That 70’s Show.  And I must say this before I continue; Mila Kunis is one if my personal favorites on the big screen, and the little for that matter, but what are you wearing on the cover of Glamour?

In the August issue of Glamour magazine, Mila Kunis is… donning a Canadian Tuxedo (shrieks of fashion horror). OK, so I know Katie Holmes was wearing one herself the other day with her (more fashionable) daughter Suri. Thankfully Suri had the sense to wear a sweet little outfit with a matching pink T and cardi, and no denim! On the opposing end, like Katie’s “street style,” Mila is wearing (reported by JustJared.com), “a Club Monaco shirt and Current/Elliott jeans”… all denim! Why?! To top it off Mila’s head is crowned with a wide-rimmed floppy hat, which ok, is cute for summer. However, if you are wearing this hat to top off your Canadian tux look, it comes off a little lot a bit 70’s! I mean really? Who was the stylist for the photo shoot? We all know she got her start on the TV show, That 70’s Show, but why jog our memory of that when we should be harking on newer, more current roles?

Anyway, back to Mila’s movie…her film with Mark Wahlberg is released in theaters today. It is called Ted, and it looks hilarious. Mark plays a man who grew up with a teddy bear that was wished to life, and some 20 odd years later, are still best friends. Mila plays the girlfriend, who like in all movies, wants something more. Now, don’t get the cute, soft teddy bear part twisted. Ted, the teddy bear, is no soft, cuddly Snuggles (ya know, the fabric softener bear). This stuffed bear has a foul mouth and some bad (R-rated) habits. The voice of Ted is played by writer and director, Seth MacFarlane, who is better known as the creator of beloved cartoon family, the Griffins, of Family Guy. I’m thinking Ted will probably be something like Brian Griffin (the talking family dog) except a bit more crude. So, I would skip inviting mom or grandma to this movie, unless they are huge Family Guy fans. Hey, good date movie for the boyfriend who has had enough of the chick flicks on your movie nights, and really doesn’t want to see Channing Tatum sans shirt this Friday night either. Happy Weekend!

Rihanna’s Racy Looks…When does fashion go too far??

Filed under: Celebrity Pictures — sorsonel @ 3:29 pm

Today’s celebrities are always trying to “push the envelope”, but have some celebrities gone too far?  Recently, Rihanna was chastised for her inappropriate wardrobe during a video shoot in Northern Ireland.  Rihanna was wearing an American flag bikini when the farmer who granted her permission to film her new music video on his field asked her to cover up!

As a society, we are getting use to seeing so much skin that a girl in a bikini wouldn’t bother any of us, but this farmer has a good point.  Where have good morals and classy woman went to over the years?  He stated that he has an ethos and perhaps she could acquaint herself with a great God.  I wonder if celebrities have any moral standard when it comes to the way they dress!

Rihanna is not alone when it comes to sexy fashion.  Her gal pal Katy Perry and other celebs like Paris Hilton have paved the way for young girls to think it’s ok to show some skin.  Posing for the cameras at different functions in tight short clothing and seductive posing is what we are used to seeing.  Most celebrities feel the pressure to look a certain way and these celebrities are role models for our youth.  The attire that Rihanna donned in that field and many other outrageous outfits she has worn has an impact on people around the world.

So the question is “Do you have to show skin to be sexy, fashion forward, and desired as a person or artist?”  Obviously the farmer in Northern Ireland doesn’t think so.  Rihanna is an amazing artist but should take into consideration the way she dresses in front of her vast audience.

Do The Fashion Police Need to be Policed

The hot topic right now is E! Network’s Fashion Police. The show stars Joan Rivers with her panel, consisting of: Kelly Osbourne, daughter of rocker Ozzy and talkative Sharon; Giuliana Rancic, E! News anchor and reality star; and George Kotsiopoulos, stylist to the stars. On the show, Joan gets to do what she does best, and is best known for; she criticizes others’ fashion choices as well as offending many. Unfortunately, Joan Rivers has recently offended a woman by the name of Rachael Lloyd.

Rachael is offended by one specific part of Joan’s show, Fashion Police. The segment: Starlet or Streetwalker. The offense: poking fun at exploited hookers, according to Lloyd. Now, as a fashion fan myself, especially of the looks that appear on the many red carpets, I have grown up with Joan and her humor. In good fashion, I enjoy the Fashion Police, on every Friday at 10:30pm, and there is no exception for the segment in question. However, I would like to point out that I never really thought the women who turned out not to be starlets, were actual streetwalkers! I always assumed that, like the magazines who insult commoner fashion with a mere black strip over the person’s face, Fashion Police was doing the same thing. But, according to Rachael Lloyd, “I watched with growing discomfort as I realized that these women – poor women, desperate women, drug-addicted women, women under the control of a pimp, women who are victims of violence and exploitation – were being used to highlight wealthy celebrities’ poor fashion choices. Mocking Celebrity X for wearing an ill-advised $15,000 couture gown to the Oscars is quite different than mocking a woman who is literally living on the streets. I doubt if E! would have fashion segments called ‘Homeless or Hollywood?’, ‘Drug Addict or Debutante?’, ‘Poor or Posh?.’ Yet because these women are not ‘just’ potentially homeless, drug addicted, and definitely poor, but are ‘streetwalkers,’ prostitutes, whores, hookers, they’re considered fair game.”

Did the rant absorb? This may help; Rachael is the founder and executive director of Girls Education and Mentoring Services (GEMS). The foundation is a survivor led organization with the hopes to “ending commercial sexual exploitation.” As a “survivor” herself, Rachael finds ‘Starlets or Streetwalkers’ “incredibly offensive and damaging.” Due to all of this, there is now a petition, with as many as some 14,000 odd signatures on it roaming the interwebs. It can be found at Change.org.

If this is a cause you support, go ahead and help Rachael reach 1,500 signatures. But I would like to hear your thoughts…did you think the ‘Streetwalkers’ were literally streetwalkers??

Selena Says, Dream Out Loud

Filed under: Celebrity Pictures,Customer\'s comments and pictures — sorsonel @ 8:29 pm

Selena Gomez…what a girl! She is the picture of happiness, and envy. Selena gets the TV show, she gets the singing career (both thanks to Disney), and she even gets the Biebs!! Yes, this young starlet has everything a girl could wish for, even Justin Bieber. But now, she has found something else to have girls all over the country dreaming they were her.

Selena Gomez says Dream Out Loud, her new fashion line for sale at K-Mart stores across the country. Selena is so happy and excited that she is now a fashion designer, even if it is for a low-priced line. Selena actually takes some pride in that fact that she is producing an affordable line because she remembers going back-to-school shopping and not being able to get everything she wanted because of the cost. Dream Out Loud, by Selena Gomez is the perfect stop for back-to-school. Selena says, “We actually wanted to make the fall line kind of preppy in just the sense of going back to school. So, we do have a lot of plaids. There is a cute plaid skirt and there are a lot of boots that we have, and then sweaters and layering pieces that are really sweet.”

Selena describes the style of Dream Out Loud as, “the whole Texan cowgirl meets the glam Boho chic of Hollywood. Since the announcement, we added a lot of accessories. I love scarves, and long necklaces and cute bangles. It’s constantly changing, which is cool. It will change with me.” So looks like we have more than just some cool back-to-school clothes. All you divas and fashionistas, this line will be perfect for new scarves, jewelry, and accessories for the fall and upcoming seasons!

The Next Kardashian Ties The Knot

Clarisse 1501 White Gown

Have you heard?!
Of course you have! Kim Kardashian has married her not-so-long-time boyfriend Kris Humphries. The couple can, happily to Kris Jenner, continue the ‘K’ legacy. The wedding was said to go very well, with only a here and there to worry about. For starters, coming down the aisle, Kourtney Kardashian almost came down herself and the cops got called. No, the police were not invited, and neither was the neighbor that was disturbed by the “loud” music, but in true fairy tale fashion, the event ended at midnight, due to the disturbance call.
Oddly enough, Kim did not want to be the only member of the wedding party, or the wedding itself, to be dressed in white. All of the wedding party wore ivory, including the groom, Kris Humphries and the Kardashian-Jenner girls. The other oddity was the dress code. Kim and Kris (more likely Jenner than Humphries) requested all guests be wearing black and/or white, no exceptions. These rules lead to many ladies wearing white dresses to the wedding, normally a major no-no. One of these ladies is fellow gossip-worthy celeb, Lindsay Lohan. However, more noteworthy information, Kim’s dress was made special by Vera Wang.
If you would like to see photos from the wedding, no worries there, pictures are already swarming the internet. E! Online is 100% Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries covering everything from the eyebrow session to the ceremony.

Kors-Le Pere, Finally Married!

Filed under: Celebrity Pictures,Customer\'s comments and pictures — sorsonel @ 3:55 pm

Congrats! Mazel Tov! Best Wishes! Cheers! Félicitations ! Tebrikler! Glückwünsche! Complimenti to Michael Kors and Lance Le Pere as they have officially been married! The couple, along with fellow LGBT New Yorkers, were more than pleased with the June announcment of the legalization of gay marriage in the state of New York. July 24th was the first day these couples could meet their fate, like the rest of us, and tie the marriage knot!
The fashion couple was married by Mayor Mark Epley on Dune Beach in Southampton, New York on Tuesday, August 15th, 2011. Considering how secretive they were about the marriage’s date and time…we are yet to hear any news on the honeymoon. However, in good fashion, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) was the first to post the news and I will be keeping an eye out to see what, if any more news they have in store for us about the righteous couple. I am dying to find out what they wore! I am sure it was something from the Michael Kors collection, but were there any flower girls or bridesmaids? (I’m not exactly sure how the “bridesmaids” thing works) Would the ladies involved have been wearing traditional, designer gowns or maybe short dresses, as the ceremony took place on a beach.
The two are clearly happy, and I, personally am very happy for them! Michael Kors of course is thrilled and tells Women’s Wear Daily, “To marry someone as wonderful and special to me as Lance barefoot on a glorious beach is more than I could have dreamed of!”
What do you girls think of the newest couple?
And don’t forget, leave us some comments to wish the new couple well and let me know if any more info gets posted about their outfits!

Is It a Situation?

When you hear the Situation, what do you think of? Everybody who is anybody immediately goes to the MTV show, the Jersey Shore and their six-pack toting roomie Mike.
Now, when you hear Abercrombie & Fitch, where does your mind immediately go? A six-pack! Sorry A & F, but nobody thinks of your clothes first, the models are what come to mind along with their no-clothes, muscle-y attire.
So, why do the two brands- a term I am using very loosely- not go together?
Well, believe it or not, A & F is practically banning the Jersey Shore cast from sporting their clothing. Read for yourself; “We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans. We have therefore offered a substantial payment to Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and the producers of MTV’s The Jersey Shore to have the character wear an alternate brand. We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response.”
So, Abercrombie fans out there…what do you think? Will you or have you stopped buying/wearing A&F gear because of this reality show fool?
Have girls stopped wearing leopard print dresses because of this show? I think not! Or has anybody stopped going tanning all together? No! (Maybe I could see somebody cut back on tanning because how orange some of the cast members are). However, like they say all publicity is good publicity. The Jersey Shore is not hurting anyone as far as A & F is making it seem.

A New Kollection…Yes, with a K

Filed under: Celebrity Pictures — sorsonel @ 6:28 pm

How much do you love the Karadhians?
I hope it’s a lot because there is more to come starting next month! Not Kim, not Kourtney, not Khloe, not even Kendel or Kylie, but Kris is coming out with a fashion line. Kris will be selling her clothes on QVC. Kris is super excited about the line! “We are constantly getting e-mails and tweets about where to get our clothes, so finally I can send fans to QVC to buy exactly what we are wearing, because these are all the pieces I will be wearing next season,” Kris says. So, if you are curious what the line is going to look like, just watch the hit E! TV show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Some of the pieces will include leggings, basic Tees, jackets, and the occasional cocktail dress. The Tees are said to be the lowest price item on the list, starting at $35. Other items, like the cocktail dresses and outer wear will be the highest-priced items, marked up to $140. Overall, this line will have almost everything you need to be a force to be reckoned with like Kris Jenner-Kardashian. And anything you can’t find in Kris’ line, is most likely in her daughters’ line, K-Dash, which is aimed at a slightly younger audience.
A note from Kris to end on, “One thing I love about the clothes is that they have a great deal of style but they are forever pieces, and the other is they are so well made. You want your clothes to stand the test of time if someone is going to spend a lot of money on an item.”
So, girls, will you be checking out the Kris Jenner Kollection, or sticking with K-Dash??

A Very Gaga Christmas At Barney’s

Filed under: Celebrity Pictures,Favorite Prom Dresses — sorsonel @ 7:19 pm

Have you started your holiday wish list yet? Well, Barney’s has and they are wishing for a very Gaga Christmas. The luxury department store has announced their 2011-2012 Holiday Campaign and it will be featuring Lady Gaga. To all the little monsters out there in cyberspace, your wish has been granted!
Lady Gaga and her stylist, designer Nicola Formachetti have joined forces with Barney’s of New York to make this Holiday season a little brighter and joyous. Barney’s CEO, Mark Lee chose Lady Gaga for this campaign because, “Holiday is about joy, sharing and inclusiveness, and to me, Gaga really represents all of that. Her platform is so much about positivity, individuality and universality in a very today way.”
For the Holiday campaign, Barney’s windows on Madison Avenue in New York City will be filled with Gaga cheer. Artwork inspired by Lady Gaga and Nicola Formachetti will be displayed along the avenue for everyone to see, and to lead them into the store where you will find a whole entire floor devoted to ‘Gaga’s Workshop.’ That’s right; Lady Gaga will be filling in for Santa Clause this year, at least at Barney’s. The workshop will be overflowing with exclusive Gaga merchandise. Maybe some Gaga inspired holiday dresses?
In spirit of the season Lady Gaga and Barney’s will be donating twenty-five percent of all proceeds to a charity of Lady Gaga’s choice. At the moment, no charity names have been released, but whichever cause Lady Gaga decides to support will be very grateful.
So girls, if you want to help out this season, and get a little something for yourself, Barney’s on Madison Avenue in New York City is the place to be! Lady Gaga’s Workshop will be open at an unreleased date this November until January 2nd, 2012. There is also talk of a live performance by the newly deemed Santa for the year!

Is Louboutin’s Sole Being Taken By YSL??

When you see a sexy high heel strut its stuff down the street with a burst of red coming from the sole of the shoe, what do you think? Well, once upon a time, it was the exclusive Louboutin heel! But not anymore!
The Louboutin shoe was once the perfect accessory to the little black cocktail dress, which actually happens to be an YSL creation, but now Yves Saint Laurent has to have it all. Yves Saint Laurent has made a couple of his shoes with the notorious Louboutin red sole. As one could imagine Christian Louboutin was not too pleased especially since he got that exact aspect of his designs, the red sole, trademarked back in 2008 by the United States Patient and Trademark Office.
Of course, a lawsuit ensued. It has just been reported that Louboutin vs. YSL has been decided by the judge. Your Honor stated, “Because in the fashion industry color serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition, the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection.” Essentially, Louboutin has lost this round. However, his lawyers are working on other possible means of fighting back. What they will have to prove now, as the judge had stated, is this red sole going to create too much confusion for the customer? Possibly not in purchase, as if one is planning to spend over $1,000 on shoes, I am sure they will make sure it is what they are looking for.
Now the true question comes; is exclusivity everything for this brand? Will they still have a chance at selling $1,000 and up shoes when the only recognizable aspect of the merchandise has been pilfered from the Louboutin Empire?
Well girls that is something to think about. So next time you see an episode of Sex and the City, and you spot a glimmer of red from beneath Carrie’s shoes, just think Louboutin.

No Heidi anymore?!

Filed under: Celebrity Pictures,Prom Advice — sorsonel @ 7:20 pm

Can you believe it!? It’s been nearly a decade and Project Runway is still on the air. The show has changed networks, from Bravo to Lifetime, and stays a huge hit. Well, if it ain’t broke, why fix it, is what I am asking now! It has reported that the next season, the Tenth season, “The All Star Season,” is going to air with new judges and a new host! Project Runway fans, say Bon Voyage! As Heidi gets a few months off. That is at least until season 11 begins airing.
There has been a lot of speculation and rumors surrounding this next season of Project Runway, but I have the facts! It has just been released that Heidi’s successor will be Angela Lindvall. Angela Lindvall is most known as a Victoria Secret model, among other things…
Since 1997, Angela Lindvall has been gracing the covers of Vogues posing in designer dresses all around the world. First it was Italian Vogue, and then British, then French, then Japanese, and then Spanish, this girl has been seen all across the globe on the cover of Vogue. MS. Lindvall was recently on the cover of ZOO magazine this past Spring (2011). Angela has also been the face of many campaigns, by many well-known designers including: Hermes, Jimmy Choo, Fendi, Valentino, Christian Dior, Missoni, Roberto Cavalli, the list could go on…And it does. She has also been the face of Gap with her two sons for Holiday 2008 and was the Covergirl in 2000. However, before any of these things, at the ripe age of twenty, Angela became of the face of Chanel. (Go Girl!)
I think Angela will fit in just fine on the tenth season of Project Runway. I might miss the German accent, but it’s just more to look forward to for season 11!

Dressing Up Your Prom Dress

So you bought a prom dress—a very simple prom dress. But you’re worried because everyone else is going to have prom dresses that are really flash and fancy and you won’t. Naturally, this is a bit unnerving. The question is—do you really have to worry about how flashy that your prom dress is?

The answer is no. As a matter of fact, simple prom dresses and short prom dresses are perfectly fine as long as you have the right accessories. You could have the cheapest prom dress that you can find and it would be perfectly fine as long as you know what kind of accessories would jazz up that prom dress.

First of all, try to find accessories that really pop and also accessories that you really like. Don’t choose accessories just because everyone else has them. If possible, bring the dress with you so that you are able to compare and figure out which necklace, earrings, etc, look best with the dress. Make sure to not only look at the formal dresses and their accessories, but also sashes and even large scarves. You may be able to find a scarf that can spice up your dress by being tied around your waist or you can buy a pretty sash instead. You can also incorporate other fabrics into your dress if you know how to sew!
