Trend Report

It’s a new year, which means it’s award season, which also means that the fabulous red carpet starlets are setting the precedent for the must have styles for current and upcoming prom seasons. All eyes are on the movers and shakers of the movie and music worlds, to see what their stylists decide to don them in so they can strut their stuff down the red carpet. A starlet’s dress can make or break their style status, just like your prom dress can make or break your night, so we all want to choose what’s right! Just from the Golden Globes alone, we can already spot some hot trends. Jennifer Lopez and Amy Adams both wore nude dresses, giving off a barely there illusion; whilst Salma Hayek and Sofia Vergara graced the scarlet carpet in black floor length gowns that sparkled. But one of the most refreshing trends was that of the printed gown!

The resurrection of prints and patterns was most prominent this past fall, a host of designs appeared on everything from t-shirts to pant suits. So, it is no surprise that the trend has finally trickled down and is slowly making an appearance on the red carpet. Kerry Washington donned an ethereal Giles gown that featured a horse printed skirt at the Django Unchained London premier, while Lucy Liu, Halle Berry, Ariel Winter and Sienna Miller all sported brightly printed frocks on the Golden Globes’ red carpet. From the pattern of pretty ladies adorned in printed and patterned creations thus far, we’re sure that the list will extend with the Oscars, Grammys and SAG Awards still set to air in the upcoming weeks.

Tips on Avoiding the Undergarments Fashion Police

Your undergarments can be just as important as your evening wear when it comes to looking elegant in your formal gown.

Cut. The cut of your undergarments is crucial, especially that of your bra. Picking a cut that matches the cut of the gown is a must to avoid the horrible fashion mistake of exposed bra straps. If any part of your bra is showing, you need a different bra. Strapless gowns require strapless bras while backless numbers may need inserts or other support. Don’t go without a bra if you need the support.

Support. Many celebrities opt for added support beyond the underwire bra. Padded panties are en vogue for creating a shapely derriere while stretchy undergarments can help keep the body slim, svelte and lump-free under an especially form-fitting dress like a sheath or a mermaid gown.

Color. The color of your undergarments especially comes into play if you have a semi-sheer or light-colored gown. The outline of your under garments should not be part of your outfit. Consider a slip or even a nude body stocking if your dress is particularly sheer or see-through.

Panty lines. Panty lines are nearly as bad as exposed bra straps when it comes to ruining a look. Make sure you try on the specific pair of underwear you intend to wear beneath your dress to make sure you avoid them.

The wrong fit, cut or color of your undergarment can totally ruin your look, but these tips can help you avoid the faux pas and, more importantly, the underwear fashion police!

Looking to Trim Down for the Beach? Then Avoid a Liquid Cleanse

With summer officially here, and temperatures across large chunks of the U.S. jumping into the triple digit range, the time to hit the beach has definitely arrived. And as always, worries about swimsuit fits, cellulite and unsightly flab are coming along for the ride. With precious little time left before that trip to the shore many of us who have yet to shed as many pounds as we would like are starting to look for a fast track option. However before you grab that Master Cleanse or one of its competitors from the shelf you may want to read what a group of experts had to say to New Beauty Magazine about the benefits and risks of a liquid cleanse.

For example according to San Francisco nutritionist Rania Batayneh, “The body naturally detoxifies itself through the lungs, skin, liver and kidneys, so to do a juice cleanse or any other liquid cleanse is really unnecessary if you’re putting the proper nutrients in your body. The reality is that most people end up gaining the weight back.”

Ugh, depressing. And sadly the bad news does not end there, Ms. Batayneh and other nutritionists interviewed for the piece detail how the lack of protien taken in during a cleanse can actually slow your bodies metabolism, making it HARDER to loose the weight. Then you have to worry about the increased risk of binge eating once your free of the cleanse and about the fact that once you’ve committed to doing a cleanse stopping half-way through because of lack of willpower can leave you worse off than if you never started to begin with.

Long story short most liquid cleanses and the weight-loss they promise sound to good to be true because they are. So keep hitting the gym, ordering the salad and turning down the desert tray for now, rest assured you won’t be the only one. And if we ever do find a magic bullet for quick weight loss, don’t worry, we’ll post it here!

Hollywood Trends in Evening Gowns

One of the biggest and most glamorous trends hitting the red carpet is gowns inspired by the 1940′s era Hollywood glamour dresses, the Trending Fashion website reports.

In addition to being gorgeous, the overall effect of such glamor gowns is the old-school Hollywood goddess that certainly never goes out of style. Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway and Angelina Jolie are just a few who have been spotted rocking the look.

Silhouette. Two types of silhouettes fit the Hollywood goddess bill. You can go with the long, clingy sheath dress or you can opt for the softly swirling skirt. The most important part of the outfit is typically its very structured undergarments, providing plenty of support and clean lines that made the hourglass shape of the body the gown’s main feature. Broad shoulders, teeny waists and ample hips round out the look.

Hemlines. The hemlines on the goddess garb is much longer than some of the more modern cuts, with hems that swish and sway as they kiss the floor in a gentle flow with each step. The shortest you want to go with for this style is right below the knee. The longest falls short of a train; although there is nothing wrong with a bit of fabric cascading right onto the carpet.

Materials and embellishments. Satin, velvet and other exquisite fabrics add to the charm of these timeless formal gowns. Another key to the look is vintage embellishments, such as ornate, dark lace over a neutral background, scalloped edges and rich textures in key areas throughout the gown.

Hollywood is hot with inspiration from the past when it comes to the latest evening gowns, and you can be, too, if you pick up on these tips!

Stay Stylish with These Spring and Summer Makeup Tips

May is just around the corner and for most of the U.S. the warm weather is already here, and judging by how hot it has gotten in the past couple weeks things probably won’t be cooling off again until it’s time to shop for the new fall looks. But warm weather means more than just fun in the sun; it means it’s time to think about changing your skin care and makeup regimen for the warmer months to come.
The best place to start looking for inspiration for your new style is the spring runways, which have featured very feminine and demure designs this year and paired those designs skillfully with soft, natural looks. Spring and summer makeup this year is going to be very subdued, with plenty of earthy blushes and natural flesh tones of shell, taupe and caramel. These colors paired with nude and cream colored lips and a modern matte finish create a very natural look that is flattering on almost every skin type. Remember to complement your style with a colorful and feminine short dress.
If you are feeling particularly bold one warm sunny day there are plenty of more daring statements to be made as well. For example neons are back with bright orange and tangerine colors leading the way. This color is perfect on the lips if you have a darker complexion or can be used for truly dramatic effect around the eyes. But remember that you have to make a choice, go heavy on the neons in both places and you’re only a bad perm away from looking like you fell out of an 80’s movie!
As always good skincare is a must in summer, and don’t forget to protect yourself with a good SPF if you plan on being out in the sun for long periods of time. Whichever look you decide to go with remember to stay away from the heavier products when makeup shopping this spring, thicker products tend to have much more grease which will crease and melt in the heat, not to mention wreak havoc on your pores.

And always remember spring and summer are about youth and natural beauty, so let be sure to accent your best features and remember that sometimes in fashion less is more.

Tips for Finding Unique Prom Dresses

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — sorsonel @ 2:39 pm

The search for prom dresses can be difficult, because there are only so many choices that girls want to wear. What is important, however, is finding a dress that is unique enough for her; you don’t want to have your daughter walk into prom wearing the same dress as another girl, that’s just embarrassing. So, when you start the search for prom dresses, be sure that you are finding unique options that will make her stand out and hopefully turn heads. Plus, the perfect, unique dress will leave her feeling confident and ready to enjoy one of the most memorable nights of her life.

Look at Alternative Dress Styles
For most people, when they are looking for prom dresses 2012, they go right for the formal dresses; the long dresses that we expect to see people wearing at prom. In the past, that was the dress that you needed, but today, the style of dresses has drastically changed and you can look at more different options that will help your daughter end up looking unique. What you should look at are some of the newer, hotter styles. These include short dresses that are fun and flirty, cocktail dresses that are more like the little black dress that we love to wear and we have in the back of our closet, and strapless dresses that are super cute.

Shop Someplace Else
Another tip to making sure that you get a unique prom dress is making sure that you aren’t shopping where everyone else in town is. For this, you may want to head somewhere where people don’t shop. This may mean that you look to find dresses when you are out of town or in a city that you may not normally go, or it may mean that you look online. When you shop online, you’ll get to take advantage of all kinds of great options that are out there. So, if you want to find some great, unique, short dresses or cocktail dresses, head online and see what is out there, you’ll be amazed at what you can find.

Get a Dress Made
If you want to ensure that your daughter has a unique dress, you can actually get a dress made. Although this may not be the cheapest option, it is definitely a way to ensure that she gets that unique dress made. What you can do is visit a local seamstress or dress shop and see if they can help you make a great dress. She’ll have fittings and a dress that in the end fits her perfectly and is extremely unique.
Having a unique dress for prom is definitely extremely important. You want to be sure that your daughter has a great dress that is something that she will love to wear and people will turn their heads when she walks by. Since prom is one of your most important evenings as you are growing up, the experience is key, and having that dress is part of this experience.
