Sizzle in Silver

Lea Michele in a silver short dress

Let’s face it, after Lady Gaga wore a meat dress the world realized anything goes!  Fashion has never been so varied and celebrities are wearing whatever they can to stand out.  With so many fantastic colors out there, one color stands out in the crowd this summer…silver!  Silver is on all the red carpets and in all the runways shows.  Designers are making silver pants, shorts, tops and dresses.  Lea Michele stood out at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards in a structured Atelier Versace short dress.  She was right on point with this silver mini.   She even took it a step further and paired her dress with silver stilettos. You an find many short silver dresses  in the 2012 Fall collection.

Finding the right shade of silver is important.  Typically brunettes look better in silver but there is a wide range of silver for girls with other hair and skin tones.  Blondes be aware!  Silver is not an easy color to wear, so start with bright silver.  The duller the silver, the more it will wash you out.  If you feel like silver doesn’t look good on you, try using it in an accessory.

Silver is so much fun and is also a great accent color.  Spice up a boring black outfit with a sassy silver clutch or statement necklace.  Put on some silver bangle bracelets with a white tee and your ready for a night out!  You can play with your nail designs by adding some silver tips to your mani or a funky metallic silver design.  Silver has also made a comeback with cosmetics.  Line your eyes with silver shadow or eye liner to bring out your tan this summer.

Always remember to start simple and play with silver to match your personality.  Fashion is fun and there are a lot of great places to find something silver at a reasonable price.  Don’t’ be afraid to try something new and be a little fashion forward this season.  Silver is here to stay, so be on trend this summer and sizzle in silver!

Finding the Next Fashion Designer

Design Contestant of Promgirl.net Facebook

There is so much unnoticed talent from strangers that you pass every day.  People around the world have talent to write, sing, design, etc.  but are never given the opportunity to share their gifts.  Giving them the opportunity to express themselves is the first step to finding the next designer.  Promgirl.net started a design competition on Facebook and within a few days there were dress designs that would impress Valentino, Marchesa or even Vera Wang.

Most sketches were presented in black and white, which left room to create the colors and fabrics in our own minds.  The dress I chose to feature reminded me of someone who was elegant and beautiful at any age.  If I was a stylist, I would have chosen Charlize Theron to wear this on a red carpet.  This would be the essence of beauty if it was done in luxurious silk chiffon.  The color is what would make this design stand out.  I can’t help but picture this gown in pale pink or soft silver.  I love the way the fabric cascades down the skirt, so a stunning stiletto would be a must!

Don’t be afraid to share your skills!  If you are afraid of rejection or don’t have the courage to share your talents, I have one suggestion for you….TRY!  If you are thinking of auditioning for the role in the town play or joining a sports team or entering your design in a competition, you never know what could happen unless you try.  Success comes from going for something!  Promgirl.net may not have a million dollar prize but we sure appreciate the talent that presented to us from our friends on Facebook.  Who knows, you might just be the next Fashion Designer!

Summer Makeup Tips – Vol. 1

Good Morning! And what a beautiful morning it is – summer is here, cancer’s are astrologically in power mode, and it may be time to change up your makeup regime – well that one may not sound as positive as the preceding two, but it is the truth. Inconvenient or not, as the weather changes and the temperature rises, your skin needs to be treated differently. Products are always being advertised as new and good-for-you, but how do you know which ones really are the best? An easy answer is, only you know yourself best, and you should know what your skin and body require, but there are some thing s that well, pretty much every girl should own – or at least have the knowledge that such products and items exist.

Today’s topic will focus on concealer:

With such a lovely change in times, most likely your daily schedule has changed too; no more school, no more homework, no more stress. As your schedule begins to lighten up, we are given more time to go out at night and inevitably, stay out later. Of course, this leads to the possibility of more dark circles and possibilities for imperfections – such as the dreaded, heat and sweat caused acne. The best way to fix these minor issues is with concealer. Now, there are many different kinds, types, and levels of concealer and finding the best one is usually a trial and error or a past down secret from mother to daughter or friend to friend. But, to make your life easier (as if summer hasn’t done that on its own) I’ve narrowed it down. A great makeup company and one you could always fall back on when in doubt is MAC. Their line is a classic staple for any fashionista but beware, with all the products MAC offers, it is easy to go overboard. Their Studio Finish Concealer is a “lightweight creamy formula,” which like all of MAC’s products are long lasting – something necessary in the long summer days that all too often become nights. A huge plus about this product is that it also contains a SPF of 35. This amongst all things is very important for women of all ages, especially when the sun is shining as it does in these beautiful months.

Beware Knock Off Sites When Buying a Prom Dress Online!

Filed under: Prom Advice — Tags: — sorsonel @ 9:49 pm

Hello girls, Promgirl.net is proud to announce we have just received the seal of approval from the fine folks over at Top Prom Websites. As some of you have already been unfortunate enough to find out there are A LOT of websites out there selling what they claim are specially made designer gowns but in reality are nothing more than cheaply made knock offs!

Well respected retailers and designers across the country have begun to fight back, and Promgirl.net is happy to join in the fight. Top Prom Websites has been established as an advocacy group to help raise awareness about this illegal and dishonest practice that has already left too many girls with horrid rags when they thought they were buying a designer gown. If you’re interested in learning more check out their website at www.toppromwebsites.com and learn how to spot these crooks before you push the BUY button!

Also remember to let all your friends who are still searching for dresses know about the danger of buying these knock offs. It can do more than just ruin a prom, we are now learning that there is concern that some of these knock off sites are using factories that violate environmental safety laws and even use child labor!

Please make sure that you do your homework before buying a dress this season because together we can put an end to these terrible practices. And as always you will be able to find a wonderful selection of authentic designer dresses and gowns at promgirl.net!

Dressing Up Your Prom Dress

So you bought a prom dress—a very simple prom dress. But you’re worried because everyone else is going to have prom dresses that are really flash and fancy and you won’t. Naturally, this is a bit unnerving. The question is—do you really have to worry about how flashy that your prom dress is?

The answer is no. As a matter of fact, simple prom dresses and short prom dresses are perfectly fine as long as you have the right accessories. You could have the cheapest prom dress that you can find and it would be perfectly fine as long as you know what kind of accessories would jazz up that prom dress.

First of all, try to find accessories that really pop and also accessories that you really like. Don’t choose accessories just because everyone else has them. If possible, bring the dress with you so that you are able to compare and figure out which necklace, earrings, etc, look best with the dress. Make sure to not only look at the formal dresses and their accessories, but also sashes and even large scarves. You may be able to find a scarf that can spice up your dress by being tied around your waist or you can buy a pretty sash instead. You can also incorporate other fabrics into your dress if you know how to sew!

Classic Silhouette: The Mermaid Gown

Paris Prom Dress 110537 is a hot number for prom in eye-catching fuchsia chiffon!  This mermaid gown has a beaded halter strap and beaded detail under a generously sequined sweetheart bust.  This delicate fabric is ruched all the way down to just above the knee where the dress flares out in a full mermaid skirt of flowing chiffon.  Stunning and chic; this gown is great pick for prom!Jovani Prom Dress 152060 takes the classic mermaid shape and gives it a unique punch with a daring rose print and sequin accents.  This satin gown has a slight split v-neck and drop waist highlighted by a black sash and beading.  In either a delightful coral or a hot red, the floral print pops in black and takes this mermaid gown away from classic elegance and forward into cutting edge fashion!

Clarisse Prom Dress 1379 is a mermaid gown with a more timeless look.  With a definite sophistication, and just the right touch of embellishment, this dress will flatter any girl on a prom night.  The slight sweetheart neckline is complimented by fine beading under the bust and is featured again on the small train in the back.  This sleek taffeta gown is the prefect pick for the girl who wants a stunning silhouette without a lot of fuss!

Mori Lee Prom Dress 8408 is another stylish but clean mermaid look.  Sequins are playfully scattered across the bodice and down along the ruched drop waist.  Taffeta is wrapped from under the bust to just above the knee in a criss-cross pattern for a truly flattering shape.  The mermaid skirt flares out just enough to give dancing at prom the perfect spin!

Dress up the mermaid silhouette with a bold print, or tone it down with just a touch of beads or sequins.  Keep it delicate in silky chiffon or sleek in lustrous taffeta.

Top Fashion Mistakes to Avoid at your Formal Affair

The top fashion mistakes at formal affairs don’t necessarily involve your gown; they involve your accessories. Ill-chosen accessories have the power to ruin your entire look, but you don’t have to fall prey.

Bulky bag. You may be tempted to bring your entire makeup kit, an extra pair of pantyhose and anything else you could conceivably need to meet any possible emergency the evening could bring. Don’t.

Such a practice will only end up in a major fashion faux pas, which is a big, bulky bag dragging down an elegant gown. Any bag with a strap will ruin the entire top of your dress and you cannot very well carry a bag as big as a bowling ball while still appearing elegant.

Crummy coat. Even if you only plan to wear your coat to dash from the car, those few moments can equal fashion suicide. Formal affairs deserve better than a puffy winter jacket thrown haphazardly over a glorious gown. Invest in a dressier coat that can work for your gown and other dressy affairs going forward. At the very least, go for a warm yet fashionable shawl.

Shoes. Shoe styles are not the most common footwear mistake for formal affairs; shoe comfort is. Test your shoes before the big event so you know you can dance or even walk in them. Go for fit, comfort and style, and there are plenty of shoes that provide all three features.

These accessory tips can help keep you fashionable, well-matched and free of blisters for many evenings to come!
